Many of you already know that I have been on some soul searching this year. I started with the vision board to fully represent the life that I wished to create for myself. Thinking about all of the things that would make me the happiest like spending more time with family. However, I never would have dreamed that it would be mandated by force, due to the terrible pandemic affecting the whole world. It has been feeling like the whole world took a break from everyday life. Businesses are closed, schools won’t resume this year, and I have been working from home now for the longest. It can be overwhelming at times, no doubt. More than that, this has really been a blessing in disguise.
My Initial Thoughts
Let me be the first to admit I was NOT TRAINED to teach children. Some days I am totally winging this thing and it is often a win just making it out of pajamas. Now, I’m more focused on all the real-life things that my child does not learn in school. How to properly do chores. The value of a dollar. How to cook a meal. What it means to stick to a budget. How to have empathy over other people’s situations. Following rules. Showing respect to your elders. Letting your artistic juices flow. Exercising every single day. Diving into the word of God so that we are armored when the world seems to be working against us. These things I feel like I am equipped to teach my child.
After a Couple of Weeks…
I am finding JOY in the simple things in life. Taking full advantage of ALL the cuddles I get during the day. Appreciating the adorable giggles I hear when my son is video-chatting with his friends instead of watching TV. Laughing at the silly interruptions of work to show me what he built out of legos. We are loving having time to go on walks and enjoy being outside. I encourage you to search for those opportunities in your current situation as well. Things like having the privilege of teaching your kid how to ride their bike without training wheels. We have dance parties in the kitchen and nerf wars through the house. I truly feel like we are creating some of the most magical memories of his childhood that we will cherish forever.
Connecting With Siblings
This kind of quality time is reaching out even past my immediate household. Being the oldest of my siblings, I left the nest first. This means I had to leave behind my younger brother and sister. My brother and I are 6 years apart, and our birthdays are 3 days apart. Both being a Sagittarius, we are totally two peas in a pod. We naturally just vibe and understand each other. We listen to the same music, enjoy the same conversations, and really can just get one another without even saying a word.
My sister and I are 10 years apart, and I have found I have to work a little harder to get close to her. I can now understand it’s only because we did not get the same day to day interaction from living under the same roof. It has been such a blessing being able to talk to them both on a more regular basis during the quarantine. Receiving random texts from Grandma, a “thinking of you” message from co-workers, or even reconnecting with an old bestie are things I will never take for granted again. Therefore, I thank God for these experiences every day. I’m practicing showing gratitude to the creator and the people I have been blessed to have in my life.
Getting Creative
Now, more than ever, companies are getting creative in their work structures. We are forced to get unconventional and develop new ways of getting work done. It is AMAZING to see how people are adapting and it’s opening up a whole new world. Because more people are able to work from home than ever before. For someone who has always dreamed of being able to work from home, NOW IS THE TIME! I never knew I would enjoy being home so much! I do miss the physical contact with family, being able to hug my mom. The gym is something I crave and have had to find community online to get away from feeling like I never get any “girl time”. But what matters is my family is healthy, God supplies all of our needs, and this is our time to bond with the most important people in my life.
First, I have to say Thank you to the Universe for fulfilling yet another dream! I am grateful for every opportunity it has brought my way and I look forward to the many other manifestations that come to be. I urge you all to start telling the Universe what it is that you want in life. Literally speak it into existence, visualize how you want to live your life. Really look at this stay at home order like it was a reset button. Now you have the choice to do only things that make you feel fulfilled from here on out. As a result, you will live a life of purpose. In the silence of this break from society, my wish for you all is that you create the person you wish to be and work on that image daily.
Now you know a little bit about what I have been up to doing quarantine. How are you spending your days? I would enjoy hearing about what you and your families did to pass the time in the comments below!
