Boss Babes Changing The World: Ms. Rachel Hollis Edition

“Continuing to reach for a better version of myself even when people openly judge me for it…I’m gangster like that.” – Rachel Hollis

This series is something that I meant to start WAY earlier in the month. Being “Women’s History Month”, it is only right that I share with you all some serious girl power! There are so many inspiring women out there making history every single day. I want to start this new series off with one of my favorite boss females, Ms. Rachel Hollis. It was only recently that I was introduced to this woman by recommendation of a superior at work. I can not get enough of the amazingness oozing out of everything that she gets her hands on. My hope is that you too will take her on as one of your role models. Let her show you how to get up and START ROCKING AT LIFE today!

Top 8 Ways Rachel Hollis is Changing the World

1.) Started from the Bottom Now She’s Here

Rachel talks freely about her childhood. Coming from a church background and raised in poverty, she learned early what kind of life she did not want to live. To some, the environment can negatively impact the course of your future. But for the other people, it provides the motivation needed to create the life of your dreams. I relate to those kinds of people!

Rachel graduated from high school a year early and moved to LA to go to acting school. She interned at Miramax films and employed as a wedding planner. I learned that every job is an opportunity for experience as much as a paycheck. She started off food blogging and throwing amazing parties in LA. You can read about what they may have been like in her non-fiction Girls series she has created. Using her high school diploma along with a master’s degree in google, this brave woman started her own business. Today it is a multi-million dollar media company! Her job now is to speak to, and for, women all over the world inspiring them to go out and create their business too.

2.) Proof That Moms Can Run a Successful Business

Like many of us, Rachel is a mom above all things. She has 4 beautiful babies, three boys, and one girl. This right here is a full-time job for many of us! With help from her husband, their nanny, a housekeeper (her team), she manages to absolutely KILL IT in the business world. I know it’s hard to find time to shower some days. Let alone rock at life! I am constantly impressed by her ambition to give life everything she’s got.

When your business is just starting out, you don’t have the luxuries of paid help yet. That will hopefully come later with your huge success. It’s great to hear about the obstacles that she had to overcome before making it to that level! We all have to start somewhere and it’s possible to fit in all the things. In order to reach success, we have to be willing to sacrifice. You will have to trade in late nights for early mornings. This is where you can dedicate your small amount of free time and attention to making your dreams come true! I appreciate her wisdom in this area, learning how to create a morning routine that you love will literally change your existence. Why not give yourself the very best parts of yourself when you are refreshed in the morning?

3.) Believes in Empowering Other Women

What good is it to overcome trials and tribulations through life’s journey if you cannot share your wisdom with others? One of my favorite things about this lady is that she embraces the power of “me too”. I don’t just mean the movement where we can relate to each other on past abuse. I’m talking about being humble enough to share the everyday struggles with those around you. The ability to meet people where they are at that very moment.

I have never seen her try and compete with another person. Time and time again I do see her telling the next person “I love that!” when they are rocking at life too. I read a story about her showing up to a marathon, which she would typically participate in, just to cheer on her girlfriends and celebrate THEIR accomplishment. The way she described the feelings it gave her seeing her friends achieve their own goals brought tears to my eyes. If only we could all support our friends in that manner!

4.) Writes Books That Take You to Therapy

I mentioned a supervisor of mine turned me on to Rachel Hollis earlier in the post. She told me about a book she had read called “Girl, Wash Your Face” and I purchased the book shortly after. This book was so inspiring to me. It was as if your very best friend in the world was giving you the best motivational speech of your life. The vulnerability throughout her storytelling allows you to take a good look in the mirror and re-evaluate your life. It happens not because you feel ashamed after reading, but because you are empowered to take control of your destiny and be who you want to be in life.

The next book after this came “Girl, Stop Apologizing”. This dove in even deeper to the lies we tell ourselves that hold us back from being that powerful woman inside of us! Her husband Dave Hollis is also an author who wrote a book similar to those above, but from a male point of view, and I found it to be SO REFRESHING. It’s called “Get Out of Your Own Way”. It is perfect for the male skeptic in your life who may look at you crazy once you are lit under the fire of everything Rachel Hollis.

5.) Hosts a Podcast That Gives Life

If you have never listened to a podcast a day in your life, or if you already have your top 10 list full, you NEED to add the RISE podcast to your fav’s list NOW. I was absolutely someone who is late to the podcast world, but ecstatic that I took the time to give hers a listen. So often when we hear about how to make money and how to run a successful business, it’s being taught by a man. I couldn’t think of a woman close to me that could speak to the little girl with big dreams that still lives in me today at 31. That makes me sad honestly! Role models in the community are what young girls need, the chance to see female entrepreneurs thriving and telling you that you can achieve this too.

It is not very lady-like to discuss finances along with ways to earn your assets, right? WRONG! Not only does Rachel give you tangible advice about building and scaling a business, but she hosts a platform where women of all kinds get to showcase their phenomenal talents in the business world too. So many of my role models now are women I have never met, but that I was introduced to on an episode of this podcast. You will be constantly uplifted, inspired, and so very appreciative of the tips and tricks that are talked about in every episode. These are things that will help get you to the next level in your business and aspire to mentor those around you to jump on board!

6.) Not Afraid to Get Real

If you straight-up stock this lady long enough, you will find that what you see is what you get with Rachel. She is the same on social media as she is on her podcast, as she is on stage, as she is when she is preaching to you through her self-help books. Passion overflows from it all and you will be compelled to deal with some harsh truths about yourself just by learning how she faced her own skeletons. Anxiety, motherhood, relationship troubles, career fails, nothing is off limits! Neuralgia, Bells Palsy, Rosacea, to the time she peed on a trampoline. We all experience real life.

You may get permission to show yourself some grace through the journey, but you do not get permission to keep letting yourself down over and over again. At least not here! If there is something that you don’t like about yourself or your life, only you have the power to change those things. We owe it to ourselves to strive to be the absolute best versions of ourselves. The methods we use for fixing these things may be different for everyone, but the problems we all face in life are the same. It is so important to know that you are not in this world alone.

7.) Focused on Gratitude

Practicing gratitude. I must admit that I did not know much about this topic before listening to RISE. Sure, I have always known to be grateful for what you have and to not take things (or people) for granted. Rachel takes this to a whole nother level by making this a part of her morning routine every day. No matter where you decide to get your dose of Rachel in, you are sure to learn that she values her morning routine.

Every day before the kids get up, she will start her day off with coffee and gratitude. Sitting at her laptop she will journal about what things she is grateful for RIGHT NOW, today. Her team even developed a product called “The Start Today Journal” that will assist you in adopting this practice as well. Another practice of hers is to write about her hopes and desires as if they had already happened. I consider this a form of manifestation, which is SO POWERFUL you guys! Making it a habit to look for things to be thankful for is a guaranteed way to add joy to your life.

8.) Adds Positivity to Your Social Media

You can pick your poison as far as which social media outlet is your favorite. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, RISE, or just visit her website The Hollis Co.! Unlike your girl crush celebrity, you are sure to find raw, unedited, no filter, just undeniably beautifully her. I can almost bet on words of inspiration to get you through your day. Silly photos with the kids put a smile on your face. The yummy looking food that she cooks is displayed for your guilty pleasure. In places where politics, profiling, and trolls can consume you, her posts spread kindness. What you read, what you listen to, and the things you watch are directly tied to your wellbeing. Try and feed yourself with goodness in all areas so that is what you spread around your neighborhoods and teach in your families.

In honor of Women’s History Month, I hope to have shed a light on the femininity ways of Ms. Rachel Hollis. Thank you for lighting the path for the rest of us aspiring entrepreneurs to follow!
