Welcome back to another edition of Boss Babes Changing the World! Today’s knowledge comes from the gorgeous and sassy Jasmine Star. If you haven’t heard of this lady yet, don’t feel bad. Only recently was I introduced to her greatness. This woman has many layers, as all of us do! She is rated as one of the top photographers in the world, has been running her blog since 2006, and is a business strategist for companies all over. It is with great pleasure that I get to share with you the top ways this boss babe is changing the world.
1.) Not Afraid to Go for It
Jasmine started out as a student at UCLA on a scholarship to be a lawyer. Her mom got sick battling cancer and it caused her to think differently about life, as any of us would! She shares how she had this desire to be a photographer, EVEN THOUGH she did not even own a camera. WHAT? Can I just say that I love a woman with ambition? Her husband bought her a camera for Christmas one year and encouraged her to try it out. This woman went from not being able to get the battery in the camera, to voted top 10 photographers in the world only FOUR years later. That is INSANE and inspiring to any of us just starting out in our businesses.

2.) Self Taught Businesswoman
Jasmine shared how she was homeschooled in an artistic environment that did not focus on the traditional subjects, such as math. If there was anything that she wished to know, she had to do the research and learn it herself. With no one to look up to who had already started a business, she was inspired to find communities online. Any time an opportunity came up to learn something relating to operating a business, she would take it! No job too small, slugging bags for the pros even. I heard her say once, even today she will take on those opportunities and say “Yes Lord, Amen.” Failure at something you love is so much better than success over something you hate. Each and every one of us can create a life that makes us happy to be alive.

3.) Shares Her Talents
I absolutely LOVE that she will still share her images for free, even as a top-notch photographer. I just love her tips on showing up on social media in ways that speak to your audience specifically. 4.) Multiple First Generation’s
This brave woman actually left college to follow her dreams. She was able to use her resourcefulness to create a life that she is in love with. Jasmine is a first-generation Latina who is such a role model for young women everywhere. She is a first-generation college student which is amazing. This woman is also a first-generation post-grad student in her family setting bars high for those that will follow. It is truly a joy to have women like Jasmine representing so many young women’s fantasy of building their brand. Not once did she let the fear of letting others down stop her from becoming who she was destined to be. I learned that you ARE the brand, so marketing yourself as a person is how others will relate to your business.
Personally, it makes me happy to know that she watches Real House Wives (or reality t.v. in general) like the rest of us! More reason to love her.
5.) Queen of Having No Resources
One thing that I instantly related to with this boss babe was the desire to overcome her environment. Coming from the hood, we don’t get many examples of entrepreneurship. You have to be hungry. It takes using what you have at this moment to take steps towards your goals. You don’t need money, talent, or unlimited resources to accomplish your goals. What you need is determination, resilience, and the ability to get up when life knocks you down. Successful people have fallen down more times than they can count, but its because they get up that they are successful. When you are passionate about something, the resources will become available as you go, but you have to get started!
